the 7th Week

This week, I borrowed a notebook from my best friend for my project.
I removed all the files of his from a logic disk and format it. Since it has Windows 7 installed already, I need to maintain the windows with the Linux that I will install on the notebook together. I delete the formated disk then it is not seen via the system vitual disk manager. Then, I copy the ISO file of the Linux to C:\ and dowload the tool called EASYBCD*. Then I add new NEO Grub in the manu and make some changes to the menu.lst
"
title Install Ubuntu
root (hd0,0)
kernel (hd0,0)/vmlinuz boot=casper iso-scan/filename=/ubuntu-11.10-beta2-desktop-i386.iso ro quiet splash locale=zh_CN.UTF-8
initrd (hd0,0)/initrd.lz
" add the information to menu.lst and save it.
Then, reboot the computer and choose NGO Grub in the list. Because i want to install the linux from IDE disk, so I invoke the terminal by typing:
sudo umount -l /isodevice
to unmount the CD/DVD DRIVE, or the prepared disk will not be seen in the list.
There are some simple configuration for installation.
28000MB for ext 4  and mount to \
3000MB for swap
8000MB for ext 4 and mount to \home
After, the fresh installation, I begin to install the XEN.

as I am using x64, then I type in:
sudo apt-get install linux-image-server
to invoke the pae mode, or I will not be able to use the virtualizaion features.

to install xen hypervisor.
sudo apt-get install xen-hypervisor-4.1 xen-utils-4.1 xenwatch xen-tools xen-utils-common xenstore-utils

Then double check the /boot/grub/grub.cfg, there is Xen item inside it, the linux kernel with xen patched will boot.

When I rebooted the notebook, I chose the "Xen 4.1-i386" to boot up the system.
after the booting up was finished, I found an issue that the dispay is abnormal as nothing was displayed.

I used up three days to figure out what caused it. As I am using NV GF 8200, the drive for the grapics was not installed when the fresh installation is finished. So I went into the Recovery Mode of Ubuntu, and went to Ubuntu Software Centre and searched for "Synaptic", and then installed that software.

I searched the NV Gforce for the matched graphics drive. After I installed the drive, and rebooted as normal the issue disappered.

Finally, I opened the terminal and typed in:
sudo uname -r
it showed linux-3.0.12-xen-pae
The Xen is successfully installed.

* EASYBCD: the tool is for the grub to boot windows under linux
