For the testing part, I had two programs for testing the performance of the VMs before migration.
So far the VMs that I have in this physical laptop are:
Ubuntu Linux 10.04 natty----ID 1
Deepin Linux 10.12 (based on Ubuntu 10.04)---- ID 2
Each of them has 8.0 GB disk and 2 cores and 1GB memory right now.
My testing schedule is the following:
RAM 512MB 1GB
CPU 1 2
VM 1 2
For each of the 8(2*2*2) situation I have a run of program and record the data.
In this test, there were some problems that I should face to and solve prior to the beginning of testing.
1. Memory Dependance
The VMs that would run at the same time may have some problem with memory race or memory assignment issue since the whole RAM is only 3GB. And also when the assigned memory is increasing, the performace of domain0 will be very low, which may lead to incorrect data.
2. Recollect Memory
As each time I have to change the configuration file of each VM, and I have to make sure that during the test the memory I assign the VM should not be collected by Domain0 no matter when and what.
Actually these two problems are not that hard, maybe just due to my demostration, they are easy to deal with.
For Problem 1: just to make sure that each time there is only one VM running and all other memory is collected by domain0
For Problem 2: just to restart the xend before the next round of test.
